ZoneAlarm Antivirus + Firewall Pro NextGen has lost so many features!

I feel like this "upgrade" is actually a downgrade. Why would you remove all the best features that allowed a user to customize the settings to fit their needs? I don't want or need my firewall to make all the decisions for me. Everything has been so ridiculously simplified that it’s not even the same program anymore!

Why were these features removed:

• Application and Components Control Settings, including Allow/Block/Ask settings (Now it has Allow/Block/Terminate. Terminate what? The connection? Isn't that what Block is for?)
• Game mode
• Pop-up asking if I want ZA to allow an application to connect to the internet
• Allow a program to accept outgoing connections and not accept incoming (or vice-versa)
• Stop all internet activity
• Pause ZoneAlarm for 5 minutes (while I install another program)
• Select which drives that I want the antivirus to scan or ignore when it does a full scan

I saw a post requesting Application and Components Control Settings from over a year ago. The response said it was in the Beta test phase. That was March 2023, so it’s obvious that you have no intention of putting it back into the program. I don't understand. Why would you remove all of the features that made ZoneAlarm the best?

    Hello,

posting just to answer to the above question. 'Terminate' will not allow the process to run again, while block will not allow the process to communicate.

    I hope this helps.

  • Thanks for responding. You helped a lot. Now I understand the difference, but I'm not sure why I would need the firewall to terminate a process. I could do that in Windows. I guess it's more convenient to do it in ZA, but for me, "Ask" was more useful. I wish they didn't remove that option.

  • You're welcome! The difference is that ZA will prevent the process running it again. While with windows you will have to terminate it manually every time it will run again (for whatever reasons).

  • So... basically you made it worst. What was useful is gone.

Not only that, when updating from a previous version, the applications in the list all became "allow" option and the blocked or asked options were updated to the "allow" option or disappeared. You didn't even warn us about this!!!

There isn't even a option to clear the application list! How do I clear the list!?

  • Actually, it seems some applications that were "block" became "allow"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So... basicly... you removed all the usefull features.

And changed the firewall so that new programs are on "allow" by default without giving a option to change this default to "ask" or "block".

A firewall that allows access to the internet by default to new programs is useless.

    Goodbye.
